SURPRISE, Ariz. — Experience Church welcomed a packed theater of Surprise families this summer at a free community screening of Young Washington at FatCats, marking one of the new congregation's first major outreach events ahead of its October 4 Grand Opening.

The film, which follows the story of George Washington in the years before he became the leader history remembers, drew families from across Surprise and the surrounding West Valley communities. The evening was offered completely free of charge, with reserved seating filled ahead of the event — attended largely by young families, many encountering Experience Church for the first time.

"While this was a patriotic movie, we're not a patriotic church — we're a biblical church first," said Dennis Cummins, Lead Pastor of Experience Church. "Those biblical values may come across as patriotic to some people, and we do honor biblical values in government and in the leadership of our country. But the Word of God comes first, and everything else flows from that."

The turnout has already translated into new congregational life: numerous first-time guests from the movie night have since begun attending Sunday services and now call Experience Church Surprise their church home.

"This was a phenomenal outreach and a great chance to show our heart — to take our mission statement as a church and actually live it out in our community," Cummins said. "We didn't ask anything of anyone. We simply wanted to give Surprise families a great night together, and the response exceeded everything we hoped for."

While new to Arizona, Experience Church brings more than thirty years of ministry history. Founded and led by Pastor Dennis Cummins and his wife, Lori, the church has served the South Hill community of Washington State for three decades and is now expanding to Surprise. The congregation meets Sundays at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Willow Canyon High School and will hold a Preview Service on September 27, followed by its Grand Opening on Sunday, October 4.

Additional free community events are planned in the coming weeks, including a family movie night screening of Coyote vs. Acme at FatCats on Thursday, September 10 at 6:30 p.m.
